As the holiday season approaches, it’s easy to get swept up in the busyness of shopping, decorating, and planning festive gatherings. But it’s also a critical time to reflect on our community and lend a hand to those in need. One way to make a meaningful impact is by participating in the City of Temecula Youth Advisory Council’s Holiday Food Drive, which runs from Monday, October 6th through Friday, December 5th.
What is the Holiday Food Drive?
Each year, the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) of Temecula organizes this event to collect non-perishable food items for local families struggling to make ends meet. With inflation affecting food prices and demand at food pantries on the rise, donations are more important than ever.
The food drive is a grassroots effort driven by local teens who want to make a difference in their community. By donating, you’re not just giving food — you’re encouraging and supporting young leaders in civic engagement and compassionate service.
What to Donate
Suggested non-perishable donations include:
Canned vegetables and fruits
Soups and stews
Pasta and pasta sauce
Rice and dry beans
Peanut butter
Boxed meals and cereal
Items can be dropped off at the donation bin located in the front lobby of the TVE2 building during the duration of the drive.
Why It Matters
Food insecurity is a serious issue in Riverside County. According to Feeding America, over 264,000 people in the Inland Empire face hunger, and nearly 1 in 5 of them are children (source). During the holidays, the need becomes even more pronounced as families face higher utility bills and other seasonal expenses.
Even a small donation — a few cans or a box of pasta — can provide comfort and sustenance to a neighbor in need.
How to Get Involved Beyond Donating
If you’re inspired to do more:
Encourage friends, coworkers, or classmates to donate.
Start a mini food drive at your workplace or school and deliver your collected items to TVE2.
Spread awareness on social media using hashtags like #TemeculaYACFoodDrive and #FeedTemecula.
